Mrs. Edith “Polly” Trussell Fields, age 93 of Sandersville, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Washington County Extended Care Facility. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sandersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Pastors Albert Fields, Tim Fields, and Bryce Jeffcoat will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Fields, Jacob Fields, Nathan Fields, Benji Fields, Tommy May, Phil Wright, Zachery Wright, Jed May, and Austin Swint. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Fields was born in Sandersville, the daughter of the late C.J. Trussell and the late Ella Will Murphy Trussell. She was the owner and operator of “Aunt Polly’s Bakery,” and was also the former legal secretary for Hutcheson and Wynne Law Firm. Mrs. Fields, attended Bragg’s School of Business at Georgia College, had training as an LPN, and had a tax business, which she operated from her home. She was a board member of the DFACS Advisory Board for Children in Foster Care. As a young teenager, she helped in the nursey at Pleasant Grove, which fostered a love for Sunday School and Christian Discipleship that continued throughout her life, even after her transition to ECF. Mrs. Fields enjoyed sewing and crocheting, but her favorite hobby was reading. She was a loving, and caring mother, and her children gave her the nickname, “The Sheriff.” Mrs. Fields was a member of Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Benjamin Fields; and siblings, Nina T. Curl, and Charles Trussell, Jr.

Mrs. Fields is survived by her children, Sue F. Stephens of Warthen, Albert Fields (Collette) of Indiana, Chuck Fields (Carole Ann) of Hogansville, and Andy Fields (Joy) of Macon; 9 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mrs. Fields’ memory to Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church, P.O. Box 31, Sandersville, GA 31082 or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, c/o Susan Allen, 2947 Pleasant Grove Road, Sandersville, GA 31082.
