Growing up near Harrison in Washington County, Edna was inthe Harrison graduating class of 1940. She remained close to her classmates attending reunions as recently as 2004. Self-sufficient yet selfless, she showed a kind, loving, and generous spirit to her
family (especially to her parents) and to charitable causes. As a devoted aunt, Edna didn't find 56 nephews and nieces (3 generations) too many.
After high school Miss Wommack attended Georgia-Alabama Business College(G. A. B.) in Macon. By 1942 she was ready to enter the labor force. It was a non-stop journey lasting 47 years. Some may remember her as a clerical employee (Cochran, Hamilton, Roberta, Vienna, etc.) with The Farmers Home Administration. Others may remember her as she worked with medical records at VA Hospitals in Dublin, Augusta and Atlanta from 1949 to 1961. It was at CDC near Emory where she earned civil service retirement in 1974. She worked an additional 4 years at Piedmont Hospital and 11 years at DeKalb Addiction Center (Georgia Department of Human Resources) where she earned a second retirement. After retirement, she enjoyed serving as a volunteer at the Carter Center.
At Bethany Baptist Church near Harrison-Tennille Edna began her spiritual journey. She remained a church goer and active participant throughout life in many church homes including Second Ponce de Leon Baptist (Atlanta), First Baptist Church (Augusta), Shirley Hills Baptist (Warner Robins), and Vineville Baptist (Macon). Because of declining abilities her participation in the latter was limited.
The family is grateful for the loving care Edna received at Blair House Senior Living Memory Care in Macon and from the staff of Hospice Advantage.
