Mr. Edsel Scarboro Sr., age 88, of Sandersville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his residence on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 following an extended illness. A family only graveside service will be held in the Sandersville Old City Cemetery.
Mr. Scarboro was born and reared in Bartow the son of the late James Havey Scarboro and the late Ruth Lena Knipher Scarboro. He graduated from high school in Wadley and early in life began his lifelong occupation of being a paving contractor beginning with R.D. Foster Paving Company. He met the love of his life Deryl Hardy Scarboro of Davisboro in which he married, a marriage that lasted over 66 years. At the young age of 25 he created Scarboro Paving Company in which he would own and operated until his retirement. He was a perfectionist at his craft and known for doing quality work. Edsel was an ambitious person who loved racing go carts, flying airplanes and later in life, riding motorcycles. He also loved watching NASCAR and he was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. In addition to his parents and his wife, Edsel is also predeceased by his son Edsel Scarboro Jr., his grandson, Colby McCommon and his brother, Talmadge Scarboro.
Survivors include, his daughters, LaDonna S. Prater and her husband Michael of Davisboro, Sheree S. McCommon of Milledgeville, and Bonnie S. Jackson and her husband Kerry of Sandersville; grandchildren, Katheryn Durden and her husband Brandon, Morgan McCommon and her fiancé Drew Cook, Jesse Scarboro, and Brittany Bennett and her husband Blake; great grandchildren, John Durden, Ivey Durden, Jackson Durden and Maddie Bennett; and his niece Twana Buice of Midville.
