Mr. Edwin Lawson Etheridge, Sr., age 77, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 19 in the Washington County Memorial Gardens. Reverend Doug Ivey will officiate.
Edwin was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Odis Daniel Etheridge and the late Ell Mae Brady Etheridge. He was a graduate of Tennille High School, Middle Georgia College and the University of Georgia. He served eight years in the Georgia National Guard. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans Mark Newman Camp 1602; a member of the Washington County Cattlemen's Association; the Georgia Cattlemen's Association; Washington County High School Touchdown Club and a member of the First Christian Church of Sandersville. Edwin spent twenty years in the tractor franchise business traveling the Southeast. After returning to Washington County he became employed by Thiele Kaolin Company where he retired. After retirement Edwin began raising cattle on his family farm until his health prevented him from participating.
Edwin is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years Robin Newsome Etheridge; son, Edwin L. (Jay) Etheridge and his wife Jennifer; his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Doyle and her husband Ben; granddaughters, Colleen Wright and Kathryn E. Job and her husband Robert; grandsons, Edwin Lawson Etheridge III and Minor Newsome Etheridge and great grandson, Thomas Jay Job and great granddaughter, Tinley Joy Job. Edwin was affectionately called "Peapa" by his grandchildren. Other survivors are his brother, Ray Etheridge of Sandersville, brother-in-law, Cecil G. Newsome II of Hobe Sound, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the Etheridge residence, 1366 Stephens Road in Tennille.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
