Elaine Lifsey Cheatham

Mrs. Elaine Lifsey Cheatham, age 92, of 888 Thomaston Street, Barnesville,
Georgia died Tuesday morning, September 13th, in the Extended Care Facility in Sandersville following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 13th, in the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville. The Reverend Dana Overton-Garrett will officiate with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville. Pallbearers will be Reid Cheatham, Paul Densmore, Ty Thomas, Scott Meckes, Scott Anderson, Britt Lifsey, Randy Long, Tim Dix, Lester Lifsey.

Mrs. Cheatham was born December 20, 1920 in Barnesville, Georgia, the daughter of the late Lester Gerdine Lifsey, Sr. and the late Bessie Britt Lifsey. She was the wife of the late Sidney F. Cheatham, Sr. She was a graduate of Gordon Military College where she met Sid and became his sponsor of Company A, of which he was Captain. They were married for 72 years.

She was a school teacher, an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a board member of the Council of Aging, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville and Circle Three. Elaine enjoyed gardening, bridge, dancing, birds and her beloved family. She was a loving matriarch and established many traditions carried down through her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family.

Survivors are her son, Sidney F. Cheatham, Jr. and his wife Peggie of Sandersville; a daughter, Bettilaine Cheatham Wolfe and her husband Tom of Wake Forest, NC; five grandchildren, Lauren Densmore, Amy Thomas, Jessica Meckes, Erin Anderson and Reid Cheatham; thirteen great grandchildren, Christian Densmore, Hayden Densmore, Grace Densmore, Taylor Meckes, Jackson Meckes, Macon Thomas, Molly Grace Thomas, Sydney Anderson, Leila Anderson, Margaret Scott Anderson, Thomas Cheatham, Walker Cheatham and John Carlisle Cheatham; brother-in- law, Ralph Tyner Cheatham of Vero Beach, FL.

The family suggests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville, 375 Thomaston Street, Barnesville, Georgia 30204.

The body of Mrs. Cheatham will lie in state at Williams Funeral Home in Barnesville on Thursday afternoon.

The family will receive friends at the Barnesville United Methodist Church from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

May and Smith Funeral Directors of Sandersville and Williams Funeral Home in Barnesville will be in charge of the arrangements.
