Anne Bazemore of Tennille, GA passed away on March 15, 2016 on St. Simons Island, GA, where she had resided the last two years with her daughter Anne Bazemore Whelchel and Son in Law, Tom Whelchel. Mrs. Bazemore was born August 18, 1916 in Savannah, GA to Frances Warner Brooks and Francis Bosheille Brooks. As a child growing up in Savannah, Mrs. Bazemore was involved in numerous clubs and organizations, but the one she was most proud of was her involvement in the Juliet Lowe troop the Girl Scouts in Savannah where she achieved the rank of Golden Eaglet, an award equal to a young man receiving the award of an Eagle Scout.
She moved to Macon in her teens and graduated from Miller High School in Macon, GA and then attended Wesleyan College for Women, also located in Macon, where she majored in Journalism. After marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Bazemore moved to Brunswick, Georgia. While there she served as the Society Editor of the Brunswick News.
Mrs. Bazemore moved to Tennille in 1950 where she was a member and President of all the civic and social clubs in Tennille- the Tennille Fine Arts Club, the Tennille Woman's Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a founder of the Tennille Garden Club, where a tree was planted in honor of her many years of service. She was an avid player and regular member of the Tuesday Bridge Club. Mrs. Bazemore was also a member of the Georgia Power Ambassadors.
She was a member of the Tennille Methodist Church where she served faithfully in the mission work of the United Methodist Women's Circle. She volunteered monthly, up into her nineties cooking food for the Bread of Life Ministry, helping to feed needy families in the Washington County area.
She was married to Gordon W. Bazemore in 1937 in Macon, GA and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage until his death in March of 2004.
She is also predeceased by her parents, and her brother Francis B. Brooks, She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Anne Bazemore Whelchel (Tom) of Saint Simons Island, GA and two loving Sisters in laws: Mrs. Dorothy Bazemore McLendon of Macon, GA and Mrs. Jutta Brooks of Cedar Point, GA. Mrs. Bazemore is also survived by her grandchildren Bill Mitchell (Anne) of Albany, GA, Ms. Marie Redderson of Greenville, SC, Mrs. Eleanor Anne Mitchell Gunn (John) of Roswell, GA and Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Whelchel Lovein (Matt) of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by eleven much loved great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 12:30 on Friday March 18 at the Tennille Methodist Church, followed by the service at 1:00. Interment will be in Macon at Riverside Cemetery at 4:00 p.m.
