Elinor McBride McDonald, “Ma-Ma”, was born April 27, 1928, in Oconee, to the late Thomas Youngblood McBride and the late Annie Lou Graybill McBride. Elinor was the youngest of seven children. She attended school in Oconee and graduated from Tennille High School. She was an outstanding basketball player and played on the varsity team in grades seven through eleven. Ma-Ma met her husband, the late John Y. McDonald, Sr. in June 1947, when he was working with the county, just up the road from her house. They married the following year. Ma-Ma & Pa-Pa moved to Macon for a short time. She was homesick and told John she didn’t know if she could live away from home and he told her he didn’t know if he could make groceries. They soon moved back to Oconee, into the home place with her Momma and Daddy. She and John began their family and raised five children. Ma-Ma loved being outdoors, raking yards, and raising her children and grandchildren. Family and friends were always welcomed at Ma-Ma’s. The time spent with them was precious and dear to her. Elinor and John were faithful members of Antioch Christian Church in Oconee and raised their five children to follow in their footsteps.
Elinor is preceded in death by her husband, John Y. McDonald, Sr. and son-in-law, David Brantley.
