Ellen Turner Askew

Mrs. Ellen Turner Askew, age 79, of Tennille passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Washington County Regional Medical Center.   A graveside funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, December 5th at 1:00 p.m. in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille.  Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service at graveside.

Mary Ellen Turner was born on December 17, 1943, in Tennille, the daughter of the late S. Thomas Turner and the late Myrtice Horton Turner Everett. She went through the Tennille Schools and graduated from Washington County High School. Ellen began working in food service, while in high school at the Arcade Grill.  She began a formal career in food service management at Brentwood School operating the school cafeteria. Later she transitioned to managing the Thiele owned Villa South Motor Inn and Restaurant from which she would retire. In retirement she managed food service for Twin City County Club as well as worked as an elementary school substitute teacher. Ellen was a member of Tennille Baptist Church and Washington County Pilot Club where she was a former club president. Ellen loved reading and being with family. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son, Jeffrey Askew, grandson, Jonathan Askew and brother, Hugh Turner.

Survivors include her husband, Grady Askew of Tennille; children, David Askew and his wife Allyson of Milen, and Susan A. Matthews and her husband Christopher of Winston; grandchildren, Daniel Askew, Ben Askew, Harley Askew, Kayla Dixon, Steven Askew and Lisa Matthews; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Askew and Claudia Harris; and siblings, Harold Turner of Warner Robins, Judy Morgan and Debbie Burgamy both of Tennille.
