Ellen Tapley Young

Ellen Tapley Young, age 94, of Tennille left her earthly life on October 18, 2021 in Washington County at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 20, 2021 at 11::00 A.M. at Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the Mt. Gilead Church Cemetery.  Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate.  The family will receive friends at Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service at 11:00 A.M.

Ellen was the daughter of the late Hoke Tapley and the late Linnie Dee Cordry Tapley.  She was born October 20, 1926, in Johnson County.  She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Robert Hudson Young, Jr., brother, Kenneth Tapley, nephews, Kenneth Tapley, Jr. and Michael Tapley.  She and Bobby lived a happy and peaceful life on their farm outside of Tennille.  She was a faithful member of Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church in Washington County and dearly loved her church and church family.  During her active years her occupation consisted mostly of secretarial work. During the years of 1977 to 1989 she served as the Washington County Probate Judge.  During her time as probate judge, she found the most joy from meeting people and helping people.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula Y. Smith-Bryan and her significant other, Jimmy D. Frazier of Tennille; grand-daughter, Lindsey Kelly Anderson and her significant other, Jess Anderson; great grandson, Hudson Flynn Anderson; niece, Nancy L. Tapley-Demeter and family, and all living Cordry and Tapley family members.

In lieu of flowers, Miss Ellen would greatly appreciate any donations be given to Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church, 154 Mt. Gilead Church Road, Tennille, Georgia 31089 or the Washington County Historical Museum, P. O. Box 6088, Sandersville, Georgia 31082.
