Emory Aldine Sheppard, age 90, of Oconee, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Washington County Extended Care Facility following a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Sandersville, Georgia, with burial in Zeta Cemetery, Tennille, Georgia. Charles Thomas Howard, Pastor of Antioch Christian Church, will officiate.
Pallbearers will be grandson William Eugene Sheppard, grandsons-in-law Michael Joe Dew and Mark Walden Stewart, and nephews Marshall Wayne Sheppard, Benjamin Thomas Sheppard, George William Fryhofer, III, and Richard Keith Lindsey, and great-nephew Tyler Wayne Sheppard.
Mr. Sheppard was born in Washington County, Georgia, on September 30, 1925, and was the son of the late Emory Mozel Sheppard and the late Corinne Sessions Sheppard. Mr. Sheppard is preceded in death by a sister, Videra Sheppard Frazier, a brother, Francis Earl Sheppard, and three great-granddaughters, Emily Louise Stewart, Madeline Grace Stewart, and Lily Gwen Stewart.
Mr. Sheppard was a faithful member of Antioch Christian Church in Oconee for many years where he served as deacon, elder, chairman of the Church Board, secretary and treasurer. Mr. Sheppard retired from Engelhard Corporation after 37 years of service. He also served his country during World War II in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army.
Mr. Sheppard is survived by his wife, Mable Hodges Sheppard, whom he lovingly cared for. They would have celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage on July 4, 2016. He is also survived by his sons and their wives, Michael Aldine Sheppard and Lynne of Riddleville, and Emory Gene Sheppard and Virginia of Oconee; his grandchildren, William Eugene Sheppard and his wife Ginny of Oconee, Amy Sheppard Dew and her husband Mike of Bishop, Georgia, and Louise Sheppard Stewart and her husband Mark of Oconee; his great-grandchildren, Bryce Austin Sheppard, Jackson Paul “J.P.” Dew, Caleb Daniel Sheppard, Reese Myles Stewart, and John Sheppard Dew; and, his brother, Wayne Sessions Sheppard and his wife Deryl of Oconee.
The family will be at the Sheppard residence, 173 South Brown Street, Oconee, Georgia.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 24, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
