Mr. Ernest G. Dixon, age 97, of 228 Matthews Road, Tennille, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 17, in the May & Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Washington County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Rabun Horton and Rev. Darell Young will officiate. Pallbearers will be Carey Miller, Butch Miller, Greg Dixon, Douglas Carey, Daniel Carey, and Ryan Carey.
Mr. Dixon was a native of Johnson County, Georgia the son of the late Wylie G. Dixon and the late Ella Thompson Dixon. He was the husband of the late Lynette Allen Dixon. He was a retired forestry patrolman with the Georgia Forestry Commission with 21 years of service. He was a member of the Tennille Baptist Church and the Woodman of the World Society. Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Bernice Roberson, Vera Fowler, Flossie Dixon, Lillian Redfern, Vernon Dixon, and Horace Dixon.
Survivors include his wife, Doris R. Dixon of Tennille, and six children Joyce Dixon Carey (Jack) of Gainesville, Lewis Allen Dixon (Diana) of Douglasville, James W. Dixon (Phyllis) of Locust Grove, Ernestine “Tina” Dixon of Harrison, Alene R. Brownlee of Sandersville and Dianne Renfroe of Harrison, nine Grandchildren and sixteen Great Grandchildren.
The family may be contacted at the residence, 228 Matthews Road in Tennille and will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 1:00 P.M. Tuesday until the hour of service.
