Mrs. Ethel Irene Godfrey, age 69, of 139 Central Drive in Oconee died Sunday night, May 2, in the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta following a brief illness. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 5, in the Bay Springs Cemetery near Oconee. Pallbearers will be Gilbert Story, David Story, Charlton Boyd, Darrell Brantley, Jimmy Pittman and Durwood Johnson.
Mrs. Godfrey was a native and life long resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Horace Gilbert Kitchens. She was the wife of the late Eddie Carroll Godfrey. Mrs. Godfrey was a homemaker and a member of the Oconee Church of God.
Survivors are her son, Noel Godfrey and his wife, Shannon, of Oconee, two grandchildren, Emmaline Daisey Godfrey and Reilly Payton Godfrey, her mother, Ethel Johnson Kitchens of Sandersville, two sisters, Mary Helen Cox of Atlanta and Glenda Kay Story of Sandersville.
The family will be at the residence of her mother, Ethel Kitchens, Green Lane in Sandersville and will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
