Sandersville

Frank C. Moye, age 80, of Sandersville,  passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, following an extended illness. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023  at 11:00 a.m. at Sandersville United Methodist Church.  Reverend Dr. Stan Littleton will officiate.  Mr. Moye's family will greet friends following the memorial service in Heritage Hall of the church. The Sandersville Rotary Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Frank was born on August 28, 1943, in Athens, Georgia, to the late Lonnie J. Moye, Jr and the late Eulawynn Raley Moye. Being a graduate of Georgia Tech, he loved to joke about his place of birth.

Frank attended the public schools of Washington County, graduating from Washington County High School. Post-graduation, he attended Georgia Tech, receiving a degree in industrial management.

Following a short career at Lockheed, he returned to Sandersville to join his father in the family business, Moye’s Insurance Agency, where he made his career until his retirement in 2012. Professionally, he was a licensed insurance agent, licensed real estate broker, and held the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor.

Upon his return to Sandersville, Frank immediately became involved in his community. He served on the board of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Twin City Country Club, and Broken Shackle Ranch. He was a longtime member of the Sandersville Rotary Club, was a past club president, held the distinction of being a Pall Harris Fellow, and was known for his quick wit as the club prosecutor in "kangaroo court".

Most notably, Frank served three terms as the Mayor of Sandersville from 1973 to 1979.

For many years, "Fearless Frank" along with his side kick "Rowdy Ron May" were the voice of the Brentwood Eagles, following the football and basketball teams all over Georgia, to broadcast the games over WSNT to the fans back home. Brentwood School recognized Franks contributions to their sports program, by awarding him the Booster Club Eagle Award.

Frank also served his country by enlisting in the National Guard unit 878 Company B Engineering Battalion, serving during the Vietnam Conflict.

Frank was a member of Sandersville United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and taught adult Sunday School.

Frank loved a good joke and a good story; He was a master at telling both, especially about growing up in Davisboro, Georgia.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lonnie “John” Moye, III.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda W. Moye; son, Clark Moye and his wife Denise; daughter, Tiffany Moye Prince and her husband Jason; granddaughters, Peyton Prince and Emily Prince; brother, Jimmy Moye; stepchildren, Michael Thigpen and his wife Dedrie, Johnathan Thigpen and his wife Jennifer, and Jennifer Thigpen; and step grandchildren, Danny Fechner and Mary Nicholson.

The family is grateful to the staff of Greenwood Place and Pruitt Hospice for the care provided.

Donations may be made to the Methodist Children's Home P.O. Box 2525, Macon, GA. 31203 or to Broken Shackle Ranch, 1542 Francis Bridge Road, Davisboro, GA. 31018.
