Fred Keith Webster, Jr.

Mr. Fred Keith Webster, Jr., age 94, of Sparta, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, June 17th, 2015 in the Athens Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 20, in The Sparta Baptist Church with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. The Reverend Brian Hill will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Keith Webster, Will Webster, Rusty Dickerson, Tom Roberts, Dennis Brown, and Marvin Pound III.

A native of Sandersville and Washington County, Georgia, Mr. Webster was the son of the late Fred Keith Webster, Sr. and the late Clara Smith Webster. He was married to his loving wife, Jane Jolley Webster, for 66 years.

Mr. Webster served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war, he graduated from the University of Georgia and taught high school for many years in Middle Georgia. Mr. Webster then worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in Mayfield and Sparta. After retiring from the Postal Service, Mr. Webster devoted his time to his family, hunting, fishing, and following University of Georgia Athletics. Mr. Webster was a faithful and dedicated member of The Sparta Baptist Church where he served in many leadership roles. He was a member of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge #58.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; his sons, Fred K. Webster III and wife Beth of Sparta, and Oscar Webster and wife Julie of Watkinsville; his grandsons, Keith Webster and wife Katie, and Will Webster and wife Kellie, all of Sparta; 4 great-grandchildren; his sister, Lillian Webster Wheeler of Warrenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Webster is preceded in death by two siblings: William “Billy” Webster of Palestine, Texas, and Adeline Webster Alexander of Morristown, New Jersey.

The family will receive friends from 1PM until 2PM on Saturday, June 20th, at the First Baptist Church of Sparta with the funeral service immediately following.
