Fred Rawlings Woodard Sr.

April 2, 1938 — September 16, 2019

Mr. Fred Rawlings Woodard Sr., age 81, of Davisboro, died Monday, September 16, 2019 in an Augusta hospital following an extended illness.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 19 th at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.  Reverend Ron Dixon will officiate.   Pallbearers will be Chris Albright, Richard Moye, Cole Moye, Wayne Norris, Tony Price, Daniel Boyd, Wayne Oxford and Richie Everly.

Mr. Woodard was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Julian Howard Woodard Sr. and the late Ora Moye Woodard.  He grew up on his family’s farm and continued his love of farming throughout his entire life. Mr. Woodard was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture for 21 years in which he over saw this regions fire ant program.  Following his work with the USDA, he began work as an inspector for the Georgia Department of Agriculture from which he retired. He was a lifelong active member of New Hope UMC.  He was a former Sunday School Superintendent and also served as the church historian eagerly sharing the church’s history, especially the church’s civil war involvement.  Along with farming, he loved to fish and read western books, however nothing trumped being with family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Oxford Woodard; children, Jan W. Blount and her husband Joby of Sandersville, Fred R. Woodard Jr. and his wife Cathy of Harrison, Christopher J. Woodard and his wife Judy of Riddleville, and Travis M. Woodard and wife Laura of Sandersville; grandchildren, Christopher Blount, Matthew Woodard, Amanda Woodard, Harrison Woodard, and Emma Grace Woodard;  great grandchild, Skye Woodard; and nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the Woodard residence on Old Davisboro Road in Davisboro and they will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
