With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Gaynelle Haralson Turk, a beloved wife, cherished mother, grandmother, and faithful member of Sister’s Baptist Church in Sandersville, GA. Gaynelle departed from this world on July 8, 2024 at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her. Services will be held at Sister’s Baptist Church in Sandersville, GA on Saturday, July 13, 2024. A visitation with the family will be held at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary, to be followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment will be held in Sisters Baptist Church cemetery.
Gaynelle was born July 16, 1939, to Charlie and Alma Haralson in Ashburn, GA, where she spent her childhood with her siblings, Lamar and Juanita. Upon graduation from Ashburn High School, she attended Valdosta State University obtaining an associate degree in business administration. She developed her love for the Lord during her childhood and became a woman of unwavering faith, finding solace and strength in her deep spiritual convictions throughout her life's journey.
On July 2, 1960, Gaynelle exchanged vows with the love of her life, George Baxter Turk, embarking on a partnership that exemplified commitment, devotion, and mutual respect. Together, they nurtured a loving home built on the foundations of faith, family, and compassion.
Gaynelle was a dedicated mother to her two children, Trenton Dale Turk (wife LaSona) and Glenda Gayle Fitzpatrick, whom she raised with boundless love and support. She took great pride in their accomplishments and found immense joy in their happiness and successes. She deeply loved and enjoyed time spent with her four grandchildren, Tyler Turk (wife Pam), Bradley Herron (wife Kelsey), Jennifer Joel (husband Ilan), and Sam Fitzpatick.
Beyond her roles as a wife and mother, Gaynelle touched the lives of many within the community through her generosity, empathy, and gentle spirit. She retired from the Washington County Health Department, having served there for many years as the office manager. She enjoyed the many friends she made at the health department and throughout the community during her career. She taught the pre-school class at Sister’s Baptist Church for decades, developing life-long bonds with the children she taught and cared for. Along with her husband George, she was active for decades in The Gideon’s International, having served as president of the statewide Gideons Auxiliary for several years.
In her leisure time, Gaynelle enjoyed homemaking, cooking, and just taking care of those she loved. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and creating lasting memories with her family and friends. She was known for her infectious laughter, her warm smile, and her ability to uplift others with her kind words.
Gaynelle's legacy will endure through the lives she touched and the hearts she enriched. While we mourn her passing, we find solace in knowing that she has found eternal peace in the embrace of her Heavenly Father.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Gideon’s International, a cause dear to Gaynelle's heart, at P. O. Box 891, Sandersville, GA 31082 or https://www.gideons.org/donate
