George Nathaniel Barfield

Mr. George Nathaniel Barfield, age 79, of Sandersville died on Monday afternoon, January 27, 2014 in the Oconee Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, January 31st, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in the Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery. Reverend Danny Thomas and Reverend Gary Mimbs will officiate. Pallbearers will be Otis Wiggins, Howard Veal, Andy Lewis, Roger Norwood, David Blue, James Tanner, Timmy Norwood and Mike Blue.

Mr. Barfield was a native of Johnson County, Georgia, the son of the late George Madison Barfield and the late Annie Mary Sweat Barfield. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lee Barfield and Roger Barfield. He was a former employee of the Empire Gas Company and was the retired owner of Barfield Heating and Air Conditioning Company. Mr. Barfield was a member of the Tabernacle Methodist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors are his wife, Betty Frances Barnes Barfield of Sandersville; two daughters, Cheryl Barfield Dunn of Milledgeville and Sandra Barfield Norwood and her husband Jimmy of Sandersville; a son, Stanley Victor Barfield of Harrison; six grandchildren, Jessica McDaniel, Jennifer Bonner, Jimmy “Bo” Lee Norwood, Courtney Barfield, Ashley Barfield and Brittany Barfield; and four great-grandchildren, Natalie McDaniel, Nathan McDaniel, Annabell Bonner and Lily Bonner.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 1:00 P.M. on Friday until the hour of service.
