Ms. Georgia Deal Holloway, age 76, of Sandersville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2023. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, August 7th at 11:00 a.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home chapel with burial in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Danny Thomas and Reverend Tony Mimbs will officiate. Pallbearers will include Steve Joiner, George Spires Jr., Jimmy Brown, Shawn Yarbrough, Brandon Newsome and Cody Swann. Mrs. Holloway's family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Georgia grew up as a part of a military family living in Texas, California, Florida and Hawaii, the daughter of the late Caughey William Deal and the late Gladine Whitaker Deal. Her family returned home to Washington County where she graduated high school and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Following high school, Georgia began a long and fruitful career with the local district Georgia Department of Transportation office in human resources from which she retired. In retirement, she served as administrator for May and Smith Funeral Directors. Georgia possessed a lifelong love of music. She was a talented vocalist and pianist and used her talent in churches she served, including her current church Ridgeland Heights Baptist as music director and church secretary. Georgia was a member of the Sandersville Music Club and was a fixture in community musical performances over the years. Her favorite hobbies were working word puzzles and playing scrabble. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and spending time with them was one of her favorite things to do. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister Marie Deal.
Survivors include her children, Caughey Joiner and is wife Beverly of Sandersville and Ellen J. Hortman and her husband Steve of Tennille; grandchildren, Caughey Joiner Jr. and his wife Alexandria of Orlando, Fla., Cameron Joiner and his wife Alaina of Macon, Conley Joiner of Sandersville and Rachel H. Strickland and her husband Josh of Dublin; and her sister, Sandra Deal of Davisboro.
