Mrs. Geraldine B. Carter, age 85, of Sandersville, died Friday, July 23, 2021, at Heritage Nursing Home following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Sisters Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Burt Parker will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kenny Trussell, David Trussell, Jack Smith, Mark Riner, Lance Gates and Tony Anthony.
Mrs. Carter was born and reared in Treutlen County, the daughter of the late Meddie Blaxton and the late Annie Mae Thigpen Blaxton. She graduated salutatorian from Soperton High School in 1954 the same year she married her lifelong love of 67 years, Byron. She and Byron lived in Soperton for many years prior to moving to Sandersville in 1968 where they established the Farmers Furniture Store in downtown Sandersville. Mrs. Carter worked in administration in the Kaolin Industry beginning with YARA Engineering and retiring with ECCI. She was a member of Sisters Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School and served as church secretary in retirement. Mrs. Carter possessed a great love of flowers, especially azaleas and found great joy in working in her yard. She cherished time with her family and doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Traveling was a fun part of Mrs. Carters' life, her pinnacle trip being one to the Holy Land.
Survivors are her husband, Byron Carter; children, Pam C. Woods (Wesley Sheppard) and Eddie Carter (Kelli) all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Jonathan Woods (Katy), Kyle Woods (Heather) and Annie Lynn Carter; great granddaughters, Karlee Grant (Dustin) and Morgan Woods; and step great grandchildren, Maddox Glenn and Madyson Smith.
The family will be at the Carter residence on New Road in Sandersville, and they will receive friends Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
