Mrs. Geraldine Hodges English, age 87, of West Church Street, Sandersville, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at her residence following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 29 th at 2:00 p.m. in May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Roger Holly and Reverend Tripp Hodges will officiate.
Mrs. English was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Redin W. Hodges Sr. and the late Allie Prosser Hodges. She was the former owner and operator of Our Shoppe, a ladies retail clothing store, for many years on the square in Sandersville. Mrs. English was a member of First Christian Church of Sandersville. She was a lover of the outdoors, enjoying growing flowers and working in her yard as well as cooking for family and friends. Mrs. English is predeceased by her husband, James W. “Bubba” English.
Survivors are, her children, James W. “Jimmy” English Jr., and his wife Nell and Gina E. Broxton and her husband Stanley all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Brad Broxton and his wife Ivey of Watkinsville, Jay English and his wife Micole of Sandersville, Blake Broxton and Alison of Athens and Jennifer E. Tatum and her husband Barrett; seven great grandchildren; and her caregivers, Lillie Little, Pam Hall, Diane Johnson, Vickie Johnson, Pauline Swint, Mary Cato, Louise Swint, and Annie Johnson.
The family will be at the English residence on West Church Street in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
