NORFOLK - Gladys Lynn Archer, 90 died on July 17, 2018 at the Commonwealth Senior Living at The Ballentine where she was a resident for 6 years. Born in 1928 in Sparta, GA, she was predeceased by her parents, Myrtice and Henry Daniels. She met the love of her life, her beloved husband, Evans Franklin Archer while growing up in Sparta, GA. Evans enlisted in the Navy and they were married July 1, 1946. They eventually settled in Norfolk, VA where they lived for 50 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Evans, who died in 2004.
She is survived by her children, Karen Archer-Sizemore and her husband, Peter, Steven Archer and his wife, Sandy and her 2 children, Cindy Archer-Hickman and her husband, Henry and his 2 children; her grandchildren, Robert Trent Arthur, Meredith Wray, Libby Wray, Henry Evans Archer, and 5 great grandchildren. She was a member of Glenwood Park Presbyterian Church for many years and was known by all as a woman of great faith. Always having an ever-present entrepreneurial spirit and boundless energy that defied reason, she was involved in numerous enterprises over the years including dancing instruction, dinner theater, a cosmetology business, a talent booking agency, and an interior decoration business. For many years she was the president of the Ward’s Corner Civic League in Norfolk and was involved in numerous city- wide projects. In 2000, she and her husband returned to their childhood home in Sparta, GA to retire and where she was active in the local community as a member of the Sparta Historical Society and even ran as a candidate in 2 mayoral elections. Her kind, loving nature and warm smile will be missed by all that were fortunate to know her. She is finally reunited with her husband and in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
