Gloria Ann Greenway Josey, age 90, of Highway 24 East in Sandersville, passed away on April 29, 2023, surrounded by her family. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville with Mrs. Tonia Boutelle and Mr. Mike Sheppard officiating. Pallbearers will be Ernie Arnold, Don Greenway, Allen Orr, Lee Avant, Lee Parker, Butch Griffin, and Lewis Josey. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Mrs. Josey’s residence, 6024 Hwy 24 East, Sandersville, Georgia.

Mrs. Josey, was born to Eustace Alton Greenway and Anna Belle Underwood Greenway on April 19, 1933, in Millen, GA. Her family eventually moved to Riddleville, GA where her father was principal at Riddleville School and her mother taught school. Gloria graduated from Sandersville High School in 1950. There she enjoyed many activities and friends and played basketball. She married her sweetheart, Lewis Edwin Josey (Buck), in 1951. The Air Force took them to San Antonio, TX and then to Washington DC. When Buck was deployed to Korea, she returned to live with her mother in Sandersville. When Buck returned home in 1954, they moved to Macon, GA to begin the next chapter of their life and grow their family there for many years. They both found a love for bowling and became quite good at it setting many records with their skills. After Buck's death in 1967, Gloria began work with Hamilton Air and then Tommy Griffith Plumbing as the office manager where she remained until 2004. She returned to Sandersville to be near her mother and children in 1999.

Gran, as she was known to most, was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and a true friend to many. She was the matriarch of the family, a source of support, encouragement, and love. Her home was the gathering spot for all holidays and birthdays, Sunday lunches, weddings, and showers. She loved her home and especially her yard. Flowers gave her so much joy. She especially enjoyed attending as many events as possible for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Gran is celebrating in Heaven with her beloved husband, Lewis Edwin Josey, her parents, Eustace and Anna Belle Greenway, and her dear sweet brother, Alton Donald Greenway as well as many special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

T hese she leaves behind and they will miss her dearly: her children; daughter, Connie J. Daniels (Charles), sons, Eddie Josey (Nancy) and Randy Josey (Tamara); nine grandchildren, Melissa D. Weatherford (David), Tonia D. Boutelle (Jeremy), Carla D. Jones (Chad), Michael Daniels (Katie), Leanne J. McDonald (Chad), Buck Josey (Tiffany), Jarrod Josey (Sherrie), Montana Josey, Mackenzie J. Wiggins (Evan). 19 Great Grandchildren: Cole Weatherford (Emily), Katie Weatherford (Tripp), Anna Grace Boutelle, Sophia Boutelle, Wyatt Boutelle, Lane Jones, Callie Jones, Mick Daniels, Cam Dollar, Josey McDonald, Wynn Josey, Bailey Josey, Cheyenne Meader, Levi Meader, Tyson Josey, Trip Josey, Tori Dunn, Chase Dunn and Bayne Wiggins.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Josey’s memory to Sister’s Baptist Church, 1807 East McCarty Street, Sandersville, GA 31082.
