Gordan David Screws, Jr

Mr. Gordon David Screws Jr., age 84, of Stapelton, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2025, at his residence. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m. in May and Smith Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Reverend Jason Burton will officiate. Mr. Screws family will greet friends on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service also at the funeral home.

Gordon was born in Wrightsville and reared in Orlando, Florida prior to his family returning to Washington County. He began his working career in the logging industry working for Pennington, M.B. Jones and Pulliam Logging Companies. Gordon created Gordon’s Lawn Service, which he owned and operated for 25 years. He proudly served his country in the National Guard. In spare time Gordon loved to go fishing. He is predeceased by his parents, Gordon David Screws Sr. and Tillie Osborn Screws and wives, Mildred Faye Bridges Screws and Hilda Eddie Screws.

Survivors include his children, Keith Bridges and his wife Janie of Rome, Thomas Screws and his wife Brenda of Stapleton, Faye Patrick of Stapleton, Donnie Screws of Mitchell and Daniel Screws of Cartersville; seventeen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and siblings Lant Screws and his wife Faye of Tennille and Sissy Screws of Dublin.
