Sandersville

Mr. Gordon S. Garbutt, Jr., age 90, of 253 Hall Road in Deepstep died Tuesday morning September 1 in the Washington County Regional Medical Center in Sandersville following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday September 3 in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. The Rev. Larry Giles will officiate with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Pallbearers will be William Sheppard, George Garbutt, Jr., Mark Stewart, John Hollie, Jeremy Brett, Scott Boatright and Scott Buran.

Mr. Garbutt was a native and life long resident of Washington County, the son of the late Gordon S. Garbutt, Sr. and the late Annie Julia Tucker Garbutt. He was a retired shipping foreman for Anglo American Clay Co.. Mr. Garbutt was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Deepstep United Methodist Church and the Methodist Mens Club. He was predeceased by his wives, Lena Rawlings Garbutt and Ida Frances Hall Garbutt and his brothers, Reese T. Garbutt and Frank J. Garbutt, Sr.

Survivors are his children, Virginia Garbutt (Gene) Sheppard of Oconee, George R. (Nancy) Garbutt of Sandersville and Loring (Jenny) Boatright of Deepstep, a sister, Mary Garbutt Mercer of Sandersville, eight grandchildren, William E. (Ginny) Sheppard, Louise S. (Mark) Stewart, Renee G. (John) Hollie, George R. (Misty) Garbutt, Rose G. (Jeremy) Brett, Jill B. (Scott) Buran, Robert L. Boatright, Jr. and Scott J. Boatright and 15 Great Grandchildren.

The family will be meeting at the home of George and Nancy Garbutt, 3650 Linton Road, Sandersville, Georgia.

The family suggests that donations may be made to the Deepstep UMC, General Fund, 9968 Deepstep Road , Sandersville, GA 31082 OR to The Methodist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 2525 , Macon, GA 31203 .

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday.
