Mrs. Grace Joiner Garrett, age 89, of Goose Creek, South Carolina died on Monday, February 9, 2015 in Goose Creek. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 14th, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. Reverends Rodney Gattie and Roy Smith will officiate with burial in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Garrett was born in Detroit, Michigan, but raised and educated in Johnson County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Joiner and the late Clyde Deal Joiner. She was the wife of the late William Edward Garrett. She was preceded in death by a son, Reginald Joiner Garrett and her siblings, Claud Joiner, Lennard Joiner and Shirley Joiner Veal. Mrs. Garrett was a graduate of Wrightsville High School. She was a retired Kindergarten Para Professional with the Houston County Board of Education. Mrs. Garrett was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Warner Robins.
Survivors are her daughter, Alta Garrett McMahan and her husband David of Warner Robins; her son, Rodney W. Gattie and his wife Irma of Goose Creek, SC; eight grandchildren, Kimberly G. Whitfield, Michael W. Gattie, Virginia Elizabeth Thaxton, Will McMahan, Andrea Sprague, Kari Marie King, Gina Gattie and Philip Gattie; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Whitfield, Carson Gattie, Kaylee Gattie, Jack Sprague, Kinley King and Avyn King; a sister, Nell Joiner Griffall of Harrison; two brothers, Charles Joiner of Statesboro and Rufus Joiner of Atlanta; and a daughter-in-law, Vicki Gattie of Athens.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 1:00 P.M. on Saturday until the hour of service.
