Mr. Grady Thompson, age 90 of Harrison, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at his residence. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Reverend Lee Lacy will officiate, and pallbearers will be Roy Jackson, Tony Bussell, David Walden, Sheldon Arch, Justin Tanner, Thomas Reynolds, Timothy Reynolds, and Tyler Reynolds. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Thompson was born in Bartow, the son of the late Willie Isaac Thompson and the late Carrie Dee Robinson Thompson. He served his country in the United States Army. In his own words, he was “a hardworking, independent, hard-headed Christian.” Mr. Thompson was best known as the owner and operator of Thompson’s Amoco Service Station and Thompson’s Tire, as well as a school bus driver for the Washington County School District. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing with pal Ray Anderson, and spending time at the Washington County Senior Center. Mr. Thompson also enjoyed dancing and was a graduate of the Fred Astaire School of Dance in Macon. He was a faithful member of Sandersville First Baptist Church where he enjoyed driving the church bus for the “Joy Club.”  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Faye Chambers Thompson, and his many siblings.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his daughters, Lynne Walden of Rincon, Kayla Jackson and her husband Roy of Sandersville, and Elaine Bussell and her husband Tony of Harrison; grandchildren, David Walden and his wife Kristan, Kasey Arch and her husband Sheldon, Justin Tanner and his wife Sarah, Kristin Kennedy, Thomas Reynolds and his wife Laura, Timothy Reynolds and his wife Sara, and Tyler Reynolds and his wife Payton; and 12 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Mr. Thompson’s memory to the Washington County Senior Center, 446 North Hospital Road, Sandersville, GA 31082 or to First Baptist Church of Sandersville, 316 Mathis Circle, Sandersville, GA 31082.
