Mr. Harold Dewey Kicklighter, 90 of Blackshear, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013, at his residence following an illness.
Born in Mendes, Georgia on March 16, 1922, Mr. Kicklighter moved from Sandersville to Blackshear in the late 1990’s. He was an Ensign serving in the United States Navy during World War II; a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his bachelor and masters degree. Mr. Kicklighter was a member of the 1938 UGA Red Coat Band and had worked as a rural mail carrier in Sandersville, Georgia for many years. He was a member of the Sandersville First Baptist Church and attended Ward Memorial Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was a son of the late William Dewey and Lena Estelle Harvey Kicklighter; and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Sheffer Kicklighter; and three brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Marlena Deck (husband Bob) of Athens; three sons, Charles Harold Kicklighter (wife Kathy) of Cookville, Tenn., Richard Sheffer Kicklighter (wife Linda) of Hayburn, Ida., Roger Harvey Kicklighter (wife MiMi) of Sandersville; a brother, Carroll Kicklighter (wife Sue) of Blackshear; seven grandchildren, Molly Austin (husband John), John Kicklighter (wife Angela), Robert Deck, Ben Deck (wife Heather), Andrea King (husband James), Meghan MiMi Dove (husband Jackson), Kevin Bickham Kicklighter; three great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives.
The funeral for Mr. Kicklighter will be held at 11:00 o’clock Thursday morning, February 14, 2013, at the chapel of Pearson-Dial Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Glennville City Cemetery at 3:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon, February 14, 2013.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ward Memorial Chapel United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 442, Blackshear, Georgia 31516.
