Mr. Harry Clayton Gilbert Jr., age 95, of Tennille, died Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20th at 2:00pm at the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille with military honors. The Rev. Jeff Cook will officiate.
Mr. Gilbert was a native of Washington County the son of the late Harry C. Gilbert Sr. and the late Sallie Mae Vickers Gilbert. He spent a career in accounting with Standard Oil Company in Jacksonville Fl., beginning in 1935 until retirement in 1975. After retiring home to Tennille, Harry was an active member of the Tennille United Methodist Church and a former member of the Tennille Rotary Club. He served as the Treasurer for the Washington County WWII Monument Committee and was an avid model train collector. Mr. Gilbert was a US Navy Veteran of WWII and is predeceased by his wife Kathleen Smith Gilbert.
Survivors are his daughters, Kathleen “Kathy” Gilbert Gaskins (Henry) of Jacksonville, FL., and Harriet Gilbert Jones (Hal) of Tennille and grandchildren Deborah Jones Robinson (Tim) of Evans and Clayton Thomas Jones of Tennille.
The family will be at the Gilbert residence 802 Holmes Cannery Rd. in Tennille and will receive friends Friday from 5 to 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home.
