Mr. Harvard Edward Jones, age 85, of Sandersville, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Carl Vinson Veterans Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 2, at Sisters Baptist Church with burial in Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Ronnie Duncan and Reverend Jason Logins will officiate. Pallbearers will be Chet Smith, Jerry Andrews, Mark Riner, Paul Simon, Richard Welch, and Wallace Leverett.
Mr. Jones was a life-long resident of Washington County, the son of the late John Montgomery Jones and the late Willie Pearl Dye Jones. He was a retired foreman and operator for Imerys Kaolin Company. Mr. Jones was a past Commander and Chaplin of the American Legion. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jones was a member of Sisters Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three infant sons and his siblings, Mary Andrews, Christine Watts, Johnny Jones, Jr. and Lamar Jones.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Mary Woody Jones of Sandersville; two sisters, Mabel Jones Hodges of Louisville and Nellie Jones Powell of Sandersville; a brother, Robert Jones and his wife Jan of Pooler.
The family suggest donations be made to Sisters Baptist Church bus fund, 1807 E. McCarty Street, Sandersville, Georgia 31082.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
