Mrs. Hazel Hodges Amerson, age 94, of 905 East McCarty Street in Sandersville died Saturday December 11 in the Coliseum Hospital in Macon following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday December 14 in the Sisters Baptist Church with burial in the Amerson Family Cemetery. The Rev. Bert Parker and Rev. Ronnie Duncan will officiate. Pallbearers will be Gene Broxton, Douglas Welch, Eugene Griswell, Dickie Wester, Earl Trussell, Lyman Yates, Grady Sanders, George Turk and Tony Anthony. Honorary groups will include the Volunteers of Washington County Regional Medical Center, the Philethia Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union.

Mrs. Amerson was a native and life long resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Rufus Lester Hodges and the late Carrie Brantley Hodges. She was the wife of the late Warren Amerson. Mrs. Amerson was the former owner of the Little Shop in Sandersville for over eighteen years. She was a volunteer at the Washington County Regional Medical Center for over twenty years.
Mrs. Amerson was a member of the Sisters Baptist Church, the Philethea Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union.

Survivors are two daughters, Jaynie Amerson Serrano of Sandersville and Debbie Amerson Mimbs of Sandersville, a son, Jimmy L. Amerson of Marietta, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Sisters Baptist Church from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday.
