Mrs. Helen Underwood Fulghum, age 93, of Sandersville died Monday, March 11, 2013 in the Extended Care Facility. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 14th, in the First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. The Reverend Lee Lacey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tommy Jordan, Otis Smith, Larry Mathis, Eddie Moye, Marshall Mize, Bob Wynne, Cliff Sheppard, David Brooker and Shea Helton.
Mrs. Fulghum was a native of Johnson County, Georgia, the daughter of the late James Daniel Underwood and the late Monira Pearl Stokes Underwood. She was the wife of the late Albert Fulghum. Mrs. Fulghum was a graduate of the Georgia State College for Women receiving a Bachelor of Elementary Education Degree. She was a longtime dedicated fifth grade teacher for the Washington County Board of Education. Her first teaching was in Kite, Georgia. During World War II she was an inspector for the fuse plant in Macon. Mrs. Fulghum was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville.
Survivors are: her brother, Fred S. Underwood of Wrightsville; nieces and nephews, Danny A. Underwood, Jane Underwood Outlaw, James Ashley Underwood and Paula Underwood; great-nieces and a great-nephew, Leslie Ryals, Crystal Walker and Jason Outlaw.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday.
