Henry Carleton Lang, Jr. of Chester, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the Levinson Heart Hospital at CJW after a sudden illness. Hank was born on June 26, 1946, in Sandersville, Georgia, the son of the late Henry Carleton Lang, Sr., and Margaret Northcutt Lang. He married his Georgia sweetheart, Rebecca Strickland, in 1968 and graduated from his beloved Georgia Tech with an engineering degree in 1969. That same year, Hank and Becky moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he began his engineering career working for Westinghouse. In 1977, the family relocated to Chester where Hank began working for the company then known as Allied Chemical Corporation. He retired in 2009 as the company’s maintenance manager. Though raised in the Methodist church, Hank became an active member of Chester Presbyterian Church. He had previously served as a Deacon, but in retirement, he took over the position of Financial Secretary of the church. In that capacity, he was instrumental in leading the church to a new level of reporting with completely revised guidelines and procedures. Also in retirement, Hank took up the game of golf. He enjoyed playing golf, but more than that, he enjoyed time spent with Becky and their Camp Lang Gang. Hank’s sister, Margaret N. (Peggy) Lang, died in 1969. He is survived by his beloved wife Becky and their two children and spouses, Charles Michael Lang and Blythe of New Kent and Elizabeth Lang Pleasants and Corey of Chester. He is also survived by the Camp Lang Gang: Magnolia Lang 8, Samuel Lang 6 and Henry Lang 6; Corey Pleasants, Jr. 21, Connor Pleasants 5 and Cameron Pleasants 1. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 5 pm at Chester Presbyterian Church, and the family will greet friends afterwards during a reception in the church fellowship hall. In the months preceding his death, Hank had spent many days working with other volunteers on the interior restoration of the Marshall B. Wyatt Chapel, the first sanctuary at Chester Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that those desiring consider contributions in Hank’s memory for the chapel project with checks payable to Chester Presbyterian Church, Wyatt Chapel Restoration, 3424 W. Hundred Road, Chester, Virginia 23831. Interment will be private.
