Mr. Horace English Armstrong, age 85 of Laurel Drive, Sandersville, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. A graveside memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Davisboro City Cemetery. Reverend Dr. Stan Littleton will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
Mr. Armstrong was born November 2, 1936, the son of the late Frank Reese Armstrong, Sr. and the late Leo English Armstrong. He was a lifelong resident of Sandersville and a graduate of Sandersville High School. Mr. Armstrong was an extremely talented man, who was good at almost everything he set out to accomplish. He found much pleasure in fixing anything mechanical, especially motorcycles, cars, or anything else that had a motor and he even served on a pit crew for a racing team. Mr. Armstrong retired from the Department of Transportation after 32 years as a Design Engineer. A good work ethic was found in Mr. Armstrong from a very early age, as he started working at the age of 11, and eventually ran the drive-in movies on Tennille highway by himself at the age of 16. Mr. Armstrong was the owner of Gator Pool Company for over 20 years. He cherished his animal companions, especially his dog “Scout.” His most treasured time was spent with his family, whom he cared for above and beyond, making sure they always had all that they wanted and needed. Mr. Armstrong was a member of Sandersville United Methodist Church
Mr. Armstrong is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Martha Wilson Armstrong; daughter. Patrice A. Amerson, of St. Simons; son, Jimmy Armstrong, and his wife Dianna of Sandersville; and grandsons, Michael Amerson and Wilson Armstrong.
