Horace Robinson Nobles

February 6, 1925 — March 23, 2014

Mr. Horace Robinson Nobles, age 89, of Mt. Gilead Church Road, Tennille, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25 th at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery.  The Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Jeremy Nobles, David Nobles, John McAfee Jr., Alex McAfee, Lee Williamson, Brant Daniel, Mathew Daniel, and Robert Wright.

Mr. Nobles was born in Laurens County the son of the late Joseph Oscar Nobles and the late Annie Dickinson Nobles.  He worked as an electrician in the Kaolin Industry beginning with Anglo American Clays and retiring from ECCI.  Mr. Nobles had a lifelong love of farming and enjoyed collecting agricultural items for display.  He enjoyed wood working and crafting small banks and was a perfectionist in the art of barbequing.  Mr. Nobles was a member of the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist and served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army.

Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Mary Brantley Nobles of Tennille; children, Joel L. Nobles and his wife Cecilia of Warthen, Glenda Nobles McAfee and her husband John of Tennille and Susan Nobles Wilcher and her husband Paul of Sandersville; grandchildren, Ashlyn M. Williamson and her husband Lee, Brant Daniel and his wife Jessica, Jeremy Nobles and his wife Beth, John McAfee, Jr. and his wife Ella, David Nobles and his wife Erin, Kelly D. Wright and her husband Robert, Mathew Daniel and his wife Donna, and Alex McAfee and his fiance’e Molly Phillips; 13 great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the Nobles residence on Mt. Gilead Road south of Tennille and they will receive friends on Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville and also following the graveside committal  service on Tuesday in the Social Hall of Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church.
