Hugh Mitchell Brown, Sr.

Mr. Hugh Mitchell “Mickey” Brown, Sr., age 83 of Tennille passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Heritage Inn in Sandersville. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the May and Smith Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Zeta Cemetery. Reverend Bobby Williford will officiate, and pallbearers will be, Bud Brown, Mitch Brown, Stephen Brown, Brent Williford, Craig Williford, Austin Williford, and Michael Brown, Jr. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Tennille, the son of the late Leon “B.J.” Brown, and the late Pearl Peavy Brown. He was a graduate of Tennille High School and retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation, where he was a lab technician. Mr. Brown also worked at Pastime Theater during the 1970’s. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, working in his bait beds, and dancing. Mr. Brown was a black belt in karate. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Jane Josey, Omie Lee Josey, and Leon Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his sons, Hugh M. Brown, Jr. (Melissa) of Davisboro and Derick Brown of Tennille; daughter, Sharon Brown Hiers (Tim) of Sandersville; grandchildren, Ashley Berneche, Bud Brown, Christina Welch, Mitch Brown, Stephen Brown, Brent Williford, Craig Williford, Austin Williford, Kayla Swain, and Michael Brown, Jr.; 16 great grandchildren; and sister, Ann Verrill.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Mr. Brown’s memory to Kendall Heights Church of God, 829 Jordan Mill Road, Sandersville, GA 31082.
