Mr. Hugh F. Chapman, Jr., age 89, of Heards Bridge Road, Davisboro, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Augusta University Medical Center. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in Riddleville City Cemetery. Mr. Mike Ford will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Carl Chapman, Stone Chapman, Daniel Anderson, Justin Garrett, Austin Garrett, and Will Oliver. Zac Ford, Jonathon Ford and Edward Sheppard will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Chapman was born in Sandersville, the son of the late Hugh F. Chapman, Sr. and the late Myrtle Hattaway Chapman. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Mr. Chapman spent his working career as a revenue agent for the state of Georgia. After retirement Mr. Chapman spent time working on his farm. He was a very loving and hands on father and Papa, spending time and investing much into the lives of his children and grandchildren. Mr. Chapman helped his wife take care of the grandchildren when they were young. He would take them fishing, let them help around the farm; each of his grandchildren graduated from the “Hugh Chapman School of Driving” by the age of ten. Mr. Chapman was a very devoted and caring husband to his wife of almost 62 years, Jean Chapman, doing his best to take care of her up until her passing. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Chapman is proceeded in death by his sister, Dorothy Chapman Fuqua.
Mr. Chapman is survived by his children, Freddie Chapman of Davisboro, Melanie Ford and her husband Mike of Richmond, VA, Tim Chapman and his wife Amy of Louisville, Kim Anderson, and Susan Garrett and her husband Scotty, all of Riddleville; grandchildren, Kimberly Bauer and her husband Mark, Zac Ford, Carl Chapman and his wife Melissa, Emily Chapman, Stone Chapman, Daniel Anderson and his wife Meredith, Sydney Oliver and her husband Will, Justin Garrett and his wife Courtney, and Austin Garrett; step-grandchildren Justin Fletcher, Jackson Fletcher, Samantha Jones, and great grandchildren, Henlee Chapman, Tripp Chapman, River Oliver, Bailee Brooke Anderson, as well as two on the way, Rylan Oliver and Summer Bauer.
