Ila Gibson Matthews

Mrs. Ila Leon Gibson Matthews, age 85, of 112 East Church Street in Tennille died Monday January 5 in the Heritage Inn Nursing Facility following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday January 8 in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. The Rev. Lamar Brantley will officiate.

Mrs. Matthews was a native of Johnson County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Willie Gibson and the late Essie Carter Gibson. She was the wife of the late Crawford Leonard “Cotton” Matthews. Mrs. Matthews was a homemaker and a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Survivors are her son, Joseph Wayne Mathews of Knoxville, Maryland, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, a sister, Jessie Mae Gibson West of Harrison and a brother, Willie “Dick” Gibson of Augusta.

The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 10:00 A.M. Thursday until the hour of service.
