Irene Hartley Smith

Mrs. Irene Hartley Smith, age 61, of River Road Washington County, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021.  A memorial service celebrating the life of both Irene and her late husband Benjamin will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Toomsboro Baptist Church.

Irene, affectionately known as "Puddin" was born in Milledgeville, Georgia and reared in Toomsboro, Georgia.  After marriage, she moved to Washington County to raise her family.  She was a homemaker, loved flowers and collecting frogs.  She especially loved caring for her grandchildren.  She was known as a person with a kind heart.  Irene is predeceased by her husband, Benjamin F. Smith, her son, Nathaniel Hartley; and her mother, Barbara Elizabeth Usry Hartley.

Survivors include, her children, Benjamin Thomas Smith and his wife Megan of Harrison, Amy S. Lord of Davisboro, Benjamin F. Smith III of Augusta, Bobby Smith and his wife Marie of McIntyre, Laurie S. Weaver and her husband Joe, Rebecca S. Valentine all of Indiana, and Lamar Smith and his wife Stephanie of Gordon; nineteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren; siblings, Douglas Landrum of Gordon, Mary Jane Allen and her husband Mike, Thomas Watson Hartley Jr., all of Toomsboro, and James Edward Hartley of Macon.
