Ms. Isabel Gunnels Snyder, age 92, of South Smith Street in Sandersville, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at her residence following an extended illness. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 p.m. at the Sandersville United Methodist Church with burial in the Sandersville Old City Cemetery. Reverend Dr. Joe Buck IV will officiate. Pallbearers will be William Charles Gunnels III, Joe Gunnels, Richard Gunnels, David Gunnels, John Gunnels, Fred Gunnels, Tom Rawlings and Charles Tarbutton.
Ms. Snyder was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County the daughter of the late Charles William Gunnels and the late Mabel Rawlings Gunnels. She was a gifted history teacher who bestowed her historical knowledge to many over her 50 plus year career. Ms. Snyder was an educator for the Washington County Board of Education, Brentwood School and the Dublin City School System. Mrs. Snyder was a longtime member of the Sandersville United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and she was also a member of the 20th Century Club. She is predeceased by her daughter, Susan Snyder Parsons and brothers, Charles William Gunnels Jr. and Winston Bangs Gunnels.
Survivors are; her grandson, David Rawlings Parsons and her son-in-law Jack Allen Parsons both of Athens; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon at the May and Smith Funeral Home.
