Rev. J. Emory Lindsey, age 79, of Sandersville, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 15th at 2:00pm at the First Church of the Nazarene with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. Rev. Jim Dunn, Rev. Danny Thomas and Rev. Everett Foskey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Russell Meeks, Mike Logue, Monty Sanders, Howard Darsey, Randy Lord, Paul Thompson, Douglas Welch and Bobby Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Challenger Sunday School Class.
Rev. Lindsey was born in Johnson County the son of the late Henry Lindsey and the late Adel Harrell Lindsey. He was ordained as a minister of the gospel in 1951, one year after founding the Tennille Church of the Nazarene during a tent revival. In 1966 the church changed its location to Sandersville and its name to the First Church of the Nazarene where it prospers today. Rev. Lindsey retired as pastor of the church in 1997 and assumed the title of Pastor Emeritus in 1999 until his death. He was a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University where he received an honorary Doctorate in 2004. The Georgia Nazarene Advisory Board and former Chairman of the Board of Ministerial Study were few examples of his work in the Nazarene church. Rev. Lindsey also served as the maintenance supervisor for the Tennille Housing Authority for 37 years. He spent a lifetime being active in Washington County and therefore he was named the Washington County Citizen of the Year in 1997 by the Sandersville Rotary Club. Rev. Lindsey is predeceased by his wife Doris Haywood Lindsey and his son Brian Alan Lindsey.
Survivors are; his children, Bruce Earl Lindsey (Vickie) of Dublin, Bonnie L. Hitchcock (David) and Beverli L. Horton (Floyd) all of Sandersville, grandchildren, Jeremy Lindsey (Kim), Jennifer L. Bryant (David), Christy H. Grant (Troy), Chad Hitchcock (Christina), Sam Horton and Sarah Horton and great grandchildren Parker Bryant and Caleb Bryant.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7pm at the First Church of the Nazarene.
