Mr. J.W. Rhodes, Sr., age 87, of Tennille, died Monday, August 13, 2012 at the Heritage Inn Nursing Home in Sandersville. A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 16th at 11:00am at the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Rev. M.D. Cabe and Rev. Danny Thomas will officiate.
Mr. Rhodes was born in Jefferson County the son of the late Edgar Lee Rhodes and the late Jessie Mae Ford Rhodes. He was retired as the co-owner of Rhodes Automotive Service where he worked as a mechanic for many years. Mr. Rhodes also served the city of Tennille as a former member of the city council and as the city’s fire chief for 30 years. He was a member of the Tennille United Methodist Church and the Tennille Masonic Lodge. Mr. Rhodes was a United States Veteran of the Marine Corps serving during WWII. He is predeceased by his wife Barbara Gault Rhodes, his grandson, Wesley Allen Rhodes and his brothers, Sam Rhodes and Tommy Rhodes.
Survivors are: his children, John W. Rhodes, Jr. of Tennille, Linda R. (James) Marchman of Warthen, Penny R. (Eddie) Warren and Eddie (Tammy) Rhodes all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Rusty (Belinda) Rhodes, Shannon R. (Allen) Everett, Crystal R. (Brian) Sherwood, April M. (Clint) Blackmon, Kelli M. (Josh) McNeely, Katie W. (Heath) Pittman, Jessie Warren, Mitch Rhodes and Tyler Rhodes; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and his brother, E. Harold (Opal) Rhodes of Sandersville.
The family will be at the home of Penny and Eddie Warren on West First Avenue in Sandersville and they will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
