Mrs. Jacquelyn Powell Veal “Jackie”, age 79, of Sandersville, died Saturday, June 2, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 5th at 11:00am at the Sisters Baptist Church with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery. Rev. Burt Parker and Rev. Dwight Irons will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bob Davis, Bob Wilson, Joe Sanders, Chris Powell, Terry Torrez and Mark Veal. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sandersville High School Class of 1952.
Mrs. Veal was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County the daughter of the late Roy James Powell and the late Sara May Powell. Mrs. Veal worked for Wilson Furniture Company for many years as the company bookkeeper. She was also previously employed by the Sandersville Progress. Mrs. Veal was a member of the Sisters Baptist Church where she was a member of the Friendship and Fellowship Sunday School Class and was a former children’s Sunday school teacher. In retirement, Mrs. Veal worked as a volunteer with the Auxiliary at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. She is predeceased by her brother Virgil Powell.
Survivors are; her husband, Eugene Veal of Sandersville, daughters, Lynn V. (Chuck) Woodall, of Tennille and Donna V. (Jack) Smith of Sandersville, grandchildren, Brian E. (Caroline) McNeely of Marietta, Anna M. (Joseph) Sewell of Hartwell, Carla M. (Steven) Poole, Zackiery P. Smith and Ryan D. Frost all of Sandersville, great grandchildren, John Payne Sewell, Kimsey Grace Sewell, Jake McNeely, Julianna Marie McNeely, Grace Elizabeth McNeely and Matthew Logan Poole, sisters, Marie Powell, of Dublin, Mary Ellen Davis of Sandersville and Judy Frost of Riddleville, and her sister-in-law, Nellie Powell of Sandersville.
The family will be at the Veal residence on E. McCarty St. in Sandersville and will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 7pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 1807 E. McCarty St. Sandersville, GA. 31082 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
