Mr. James E. Blackmon, age 83, of Sandersville died on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, in the Extended Care Facility in Sandersville following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 13, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. Reverend Roy Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Walden's United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Blackmon was a native of Jenkins County, Georgia, the son of the late Ernest Blackmon and the late Charlotte Riddle Blackmon. He was preceded in death by his step mother, Frances Perkins Blackmon and a son, Michael Allen Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon was a retired truck driving instructor with Sandersville Technical College. He was a member of Walden's United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ellen Blackmon of Sandersville; children, Jim Blackmon and his wife Kathy of Richmond Hill, Edwin Keith Blackmon and his wife Cathy of Palm Coast, FL, Meredith Blackmon Chapman and her husband Bill of Riddleville, Walter D. Blackmon, Sr. of Sandersville and Clinton A. Blackmon and his wife April of Savannah; sister, Mildred Hogan of Iowa; nine grandchildren, Joshua Boone Blackmon, Lydia Kaye Clothey, Holly Nicole Watson, Corey Blackmon, Michael George Rogers, Mack Lewis Rogers, Walter David Blackmon, Jr., India Hood and Aspen Scout Blackmon; eight great grandchildren, Ally Blackmon, Gill Watson, Coraline Rogers, Everly Mical Rogers, Landon David Blackmon, Dallas Hood, Destin Hood and Marlo East, Jr.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Friday.
