James Cordy Francis, Jr.

Sandersville

James Cordy “Jimmy” Francis, Jr., age 75, died Friday, November 6th, 2015. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 09th at 2:00 PM at the Davisboro United Methodist Church with internment in the Davisboro City Cemetery next to his parents and grandparents.

Pallbearers are Larry Jordan, Scotty McCoy, Carl Moye, Frank Moye, Wayne Norris, and Billy Pate. Honorary Pallbearers are Roy Avant, Jr., Robert Harrell, Larry Mathis, Jimmy Moye, John Moye, Bobby Smith, Earl Smith, and Jack Taylor, Jr.

An accomplished athlete in his high school years at Sandersville High School, he continued a love for sports throughout his life. Following graduation, he attended Georgia Military College on a basketball scholarship. He completed his education at the University of Georgia, graduating in 1962.

Jimmy was a retired CPA and farmer. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Augusta and Atlanta. He eventually came home to farm and later to open an accounting business. He was a member of the Davisboro United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Administrative Board, and taught Sunday school. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Brentwood School, where he served as treasurer. He also served on the board of Twin City Country Club.

He enjoyed the comradery of his friends and peers from his childhood and youth, who remained in touch for years. He was a member of the “Davisboro Boys”.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, Harriett and Cordy Francis and his sister, Sally Francis Tanner.

He is survived by: his daughter, Susan Francis; his son James Francis, III and his wife Tetra of Sandersville; beloved grandchildren, Brianna Francis, Cameran Francis, and James Cordy Francis IV; a brother, William B. Francis III of St. Augustine, Florida; his sisters, Gerri Hudson and her husband Buddy, and Bett Lord and her husband Lee, all of Sandersville; an aunt Mrs. Bett Bender of Davisboro; and an uncle, Dan C. Moye of Tennille.

The family will receive friends at May & Smith Funeral Home from 4:00PM until 6:00PM on
Sunday, November 08, 2015.

The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Davisboro United Methodist Church 2501 Hwy 15 North, Sandersville, Georgia 31082 or to Brentwood School P.O. Box 955 Sandersville, Georgia 31082.

May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
