Mr. James E. Harris, Jr., age 70 of Deepstep, passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 2, 2025, after an extended illness. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Deepstep Community Church. Reverend Eddie Wiggins and Reverend Paul Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Mr. Harris was born in Sandersville, and grew up in Deepstep, the son of the late James Elwood Harris and the late Electa Archer Harris. He was a tower crane operator for Local Union Hall 926 and Georgia Power. James was an avid motorcyclist, and he enjoyed travelling all over the United States visiting new places on his 1960 pan head Harley Davidson. He was a huge supporter of AA and helped many people get back on their feet over the years. James had a big heart and one of his greatest joys was helping people fix things. He loved his family and always made time for them, especially playing with his nieces and nephews. James was a member of Deepstep Community Church where he has served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and Hamilton Masonic Lodge #58 F & AM. Above all else, he was a great and loving father. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Cecil Lewis; stepson, Joey Oliver; and sister-in-law, Mary Harris.
Mr. Harris is survived by his son, Jay Harris of Atlanta; daughter Cassie Harris Smith (Kody) of Dublin; stepsons, Kendall Oliver (Belinda) and Timmy Oliver (Leigh), both of Dublin; grandchildren, Carter and Kayden Smith; siblings, Hugh Harris of Deepstep, Iva Griffin (Irvin) of Milledgeville, Kyla Andrews (Al) of Deepstep, Lee Harris (Judy) of Alabama, and Paul Harris (Judy) of Bartow; his much loved and devoted fur baby, Torro; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Mr. Harris’ caregivers, Evelyn and Gene Mincy, Margie Lowe and Polly Phillips.
