Mr. James A. McAfee, age 88, formerly of Hwy 15 South, Tennille, passed away Monday, April 24, 2023, at Heritage Inn following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, April 26
th
at 2:00 p.m. in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille. Mr. Carl Forrester will officiate. Erik Orr, A.J. Orr, Benjie Joiner, Steve Joiner, Carl Moye and William McMaster will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. McAfee was born and reared in Tennille, the son of the late Wilbur Ray McAfee and the late Annie Julia Blount McAfee. He graduated from Tennille High School where he excelled in football. Willing to serve his country, Mr. McAfee enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a military policeman. Upon his return from active service, he attended Middle Georgia College, and continued serving the Army in the reserves. Mr. McAfee began his working career in finance working for Citizens Finance, in Milledgeville and Florida. He returned home to Tennille and began a sales career for Electro-Mec of Wrightsville. He transitioned to working in the Kaolin Industry for Theile Kaolin Company from which he retired. Mr. McAfee loved sports and was a golf enthusiast. He was a former member of the Twin City Country Club. Mr. McAfee was known for loving life and his family. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Amelia Brantley McAfee; his son, Larry McAfee; and his son-in-law, Randy Dunn.
Survivors include his children, Patsy M. Dunn of Tennille, Julie M. Orr and her husband Allen of Sandersville, and Lynn M. Gilbert and her husband Bill of Midway; grandchildren, Erik Orr and his wife Alicia of Dudley, GA., A. J. Orr and his wife Kelli of Houston, TX., Anna Dunn of Sandersville, Rachel G. Shoemake and her husband Casey of Woodstock, GA., and Brooke Gilbert of Pooler, GA.; great grandchildren, Caden Dalesandro, Madison Orr, Mac Orr and Walker Shoemake; siblings, Jean M. Joiner, Mary M. Moye and Faye M. McMaster and her husband Billy, all of Tennille; and nieces and nephews, Benjie Joiner and his wife Connie, Steve Joiner and his wife Jana, Martha J. Campbell and her husband Bobby, Ann M. Warren and her husband Ben, Carl Moye and his wife Casey, Kay McMaster and her husband Charlie Buchholz, and William McMaster and his wife Gina.
