Dr. James Darby “JIM” Orr, age 76, of Brooklet, Georgia died Friday evening September 26 in the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday September 29 in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. Elder Kenneth Brantley will officiate with burial in the Zeta Cemetery in Tennille.
Dr. Orr was a native of Tennille, Georgia, the son of the late James Darby Orr and the late Bernice Warnock Orr. He graduated from Tennille High School. He received his undergraduate degrees from Mercer University and his Doctorate in administration from Columbia University. Dr. Orr retired in 1996 as the Associate Dean of Students for Georgia Southern University and was the Greek advisor. He was initiated into the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity in 1967. Dr. Orr was a member of the Brooklet Kiwanis Club and served as Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Brooklet from 2010 until 2013. He was the owner of Approved Service Ice Machine Company of Brooklet. Dr. Orr wanted students to give to society and be productive members of society. He wanted to instill in students leadership ability and an ability to work with people for the accomplishment of common objectives.
Survivors are his cousins, Foster Warnock and his wife Sandra of Covington, Larry Warnock and his wife Elizabeth of Hartwell, Garland Warnock and his wife Jackie of Soperton, Timothy Warnock and his wife Glory Dean of Prattville, Alabama and David Warnock and his wife Mae of Tarrytown.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. on Monday.
