Mr. James Carl Tanner, age 85 of Tennille died on Saturday, January 3, 2014, in a Milledgeville hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 6th, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. Reverend Danny Thomas and Reverend Danny Rountree will officiate. A graveside service of committal will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 7th, in the Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins with the Reverend Roy Smith officiating.
Mr. Tanner was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Cleon I . Tanner and the late Viola Ivey Tanner. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Nadine Smith Tanner and the late Mary Warren Smith Tanner. He was preceded in death by his siblings; G. W. Tanner, mark Tanner, Lennard Tanner, Jesse Tanner, Susiebel Godfrey and Evona Turner. Mr. Tanner was a retired systems analyst for the Warner Robins Air Force Base. He attended the Church of the Nazarene and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors are his two sons, Ken C. Bridges and his wife Rita of Warner Robins and David G. Tanner and his wife Shay of Norcross; seven grandchildren, Scott Bridges, Lisa Bridges Miller, Joseph Glen Tanner, Andrew D. Tanner, Jesse W. Tanner, Kenny Roy Tanner and Wesley Michael Tanner; three great-grandchildren, Mara Jade Miller, Amelia Page Tanner and Ayla Lynn Tanner; two sisters, Mary Cooke of Sandersville and Margaret Holley of Conyers.
The family will receive friends at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville from 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday until the hour of service.
The family suggests memorials in Mr. Tanner’s name be to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , P. O. Box 1818, Memphis, TN 38101-9903.
May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
