Jan Burgamy Hattaway, age 70, of Demorest, passed away peacefully at her home on June 15, 2026, at the age of 70. Born November 18, 1955, in Sparta, GA, Jan was the daughter of the late James Calvin Burgamy and Agnes Toulson Burgamy. 

Jan led a fulfilling life, dedicated to her family. She was the devoted wife of the late James Robert Hattaway, Jr. Together, they ran the Market Basket in Sparta for many years. After moving to Habersham County, Jan worked for many years at Habersham County Health Department as the WIC Program Manager, until her retirement. She was a proud member of the Chattahoochee Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her kindness and her homemade baked goods, which she often shared with her co-workers, friends, and church family. 

In her younger years, Jan was known for her love of shooting pool and playing in summer league softball. Most importantly, Jan was known for her unwavering love for her family. 

She is survived by her children, Beth Atha (Rodney) and Bobby Hattaway (Amanda); her grandchildren, Courtney Brown (Logan), Drew Atha (Hallie), Chandler Hattaway, Austin Atha, and Jaxon Hattaway, as well as her great-grandchildren Westen & Brooklyn Majors and Emmett James Atha, who will carry forward the love and joy she shared with them. She is also survived by her brother Jimmy Burgamy, and her sisters Lillie B. Rachels and Missy B. (Ray) Poole.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Mitchell, GA. Rev. Bobby Hattaway and Rev. Courtney Umbehant will officiate the service. Jan will be laid to rest at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.

The visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at New Vision Worship Center, 335 L C Turner Road, Baldwin, GA 30511.
