Janie Lindsey Bryan

June 15, 1930 — February 17, 2012

Mrs. Janie Lindsey Bryan, age 81, of Tennille, died Friday, February 17, 2012 in Macon following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3:00pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Washington County Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dr. Jarrett Burch will officiate. Pallbearers will be Johnny Davis, Ken Davis, Ronald Hitchcock, Waylan Hitchcock, Ben Hitchcock, Wayne Layton, Eric Conner, Ashley Andrews and David Levie.

Mrs. Bryan was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County the daughter of the late Horace H. Hitchcock and the late Zoudie Tyson Hitchcock. She worked for the Tennille Banking Company before beginning a forty four year career at the Washington County Superior Clerks Office. Mrs. Bryan was made the deputy clerk in 1960 and was elected as Washington County’s Superior Court Clerk in 1976 where she served continuously until retirement in 1996. She was a former member of the Georgia County Officers Association where she was honored as being the Clerk of the Year in 1994 and she was also a charter member or the Washington County Pilot Club. Mrs. Bryan was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and former member of the Faith Baptist Church where she served as church secretary and treasurer. She is predeceased by her husband’s Bobby Lindsey and Albert Lee Bryan.

Survivors are her children, Bobby Keith Lindsey of Wrightsville, Jan L. Atkinson (Rennie) of Macon, and Jeffrey B. Lindsey (Dawn) of Huntersville NC, step-children, Linda Jackson (Richard) of Riddleville, Robert Bryan (Dawn) of Waldorf MD, and Wanda B. Lewis (Donald) of Tennille, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, her brother Ray Hitchcock of Tennille, her caregiver, friend and angel Tracey Jones of Macon and her devoted friends at Flint River Memory Care.

The family will be at the residence of Brandon and Deanne Lindsey, 1761 Veal Road, in Deepstep and they will receive friends Saturday from 4 until 6pm at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
